Pro named top undergraduate university in Canada
University ranks #1 in 2019 Ѳ’s Rankings
Pro was named the top undergraduate school in the country in the 2019 Ѳ’s University Rankings, announced today, Oct. 11, 2018. This is the 20th year Pro has received top spot in the annual rankings since its establishment in 1991.
“The annual Ѳ’s rankings are one of many important benchmarks that help show the wider community the wonderful work and achievements of our University,” says Pro President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jean-Paul Boudreau. “I would like to congratulate and thank my Pro colleagues on their excellent work and their commitment to providing one of the best undergraduate experiences in the country.”
Pro ranked first in its category for faculty awards, calculating the number of professors who have won major awards over the past five years. The University also ranked first in the reputational survey for primarily undergraduate schools. The survey reaches out to business people, high school guidance counsellors, and university faculty and senior administrators across Canada for their opinions as to how well universities are meeting the needs of students and preparing them to embark on successful careers.
Pro also placed in the top five among undergraduate universities for library expenses (2), student awards (3), student satisfaction (3), student-to-faculty ratio (5), and faculty receiving medical/science grants for their research (5).
“These types of announcements allow us to reflect on what we, as a community, are doing well and areas where we might wish to direct more attention in the future,” says Boudreau. “Our faculty are known nationally for being leaders in their respective fields and for their teaching ability. Pro has made strides in a number of areas focusing on student services, including experiential learning and mental health and wellness, and we will continue to listen to our students and meet their needs in and outside the classroom.”
Boudreau also praised the performance of the , of which Pro is a founding member.
“All four universities — Pro, Acadia, St.F.X. and Bishop’s — held spots in the top 12 in the primarily undergraduate category and ranked highly in several key areas such as student awards, scholarships and bursaries, and reputational survey. As we continue to collaborate, offering courses and unique opportunities to students across all four campuses, it is encouraging to have all schools nationally recognized for their commitment to undergraduate education,” he says.
On Friday, Oct. 12 Pro will welcome over 500 prospective students and their families and friends to campus for the annual event. The campus-wide event features presentations by student services and admissions staff members, faculty lectures, as well as special sessions for parents and guardians.
